Description of the Group

Medical technology is an interdisciplinary area where engineering meets medicine. The closeness to the clinic and the user is of high importance to guarantee the relevance of the research, but to commercialize ideas there is also a need of interaction with industry and markets.

The concentration of the Med.Tech CIG lies on applied research, where we focus on the development of methods and devices in healthcare and for medical applications.

Purpose

The main objective of this group is to initiate research, education and industrial collaboration within the area of medical technology.

We want the participants to interact and develop synergies to enhance the opportunities for cooperation. The hope, or intention, is that cooperation will produce scientific papers and accelerate success in each other’s research.

Recent Activities

• September 14-15 The Med.Tech CIG was initiated and formed at the PIEp Hamburg Workshop.
• September 24 Invitation to join the Med.Tech CIG is sent to all PIEp doctorial students.
• October 1 Applications submitted.
• October 14-15 Tiger Team Writing Workshop in Luleå. Start of the Med.tech paper for ICED.
• October 22 Kick-off!
• November 25 Annual PIEp Day.

• Spring 2009 Med. Tech CIG Workshop.

Meetings are held every other month to keep each other updated on each other’s work and progress.

Ongoing projects

"Towards the Design of Innovation Driven Research Education in Medical Technology"

As the first common goal for the Med.tech CIG a questionnaire based quantitative paper with the aims of;

'Describe the status of ”innovation based research” from the Phd’s viewpoint'
