The purpose

“Networking”, it’s important, everybody does it, everyone knows it. It’s easy ... STOP! Think, is it?

IRCIG does not at all see “networking for PIEp” as the sole purpose, but this is a great part of our work. The group is happy to serve as a source for contacts, coordination and team building activities to the other CIGs.

IRCIG will locate potential opportunities and make the best possible use of these opportunities – in terms of organising events, spreading crucial information, establishing and maintaining collaborations. By promoting PIEp internally, nationally and internationally with the above mentioned means, the group members will work on strengthening the brand name of PIEp’s research school.

The members of this CIG are thrilled to guarantee PIEp’s success by exerting a strong impact on PIEp’s (international) relations and by spreading the “PIEp spirit”.

The above stated purpose will be achieved through the following objectives

The upcoming events

In general IRCIG will thrive for reducing distances – in every meaning. We will improve and/or establish our close relation to every of the national PIEp nodes by visiting them within the next 12 months, i.e. until September 2009. Furthermore we will investigate in interesting new potential partners both nationally and internationally and if we find that they can be attractive to at least one of the PIEp doctoral students or their career we will bond these new partners to our network and keep a close relation to them.

Please be aware that the schedule is a preliminary one and that upcoming opportunities will influence the planning. You are welcome to contact any CIG member if you are interested in an updated version.

We aim at a physical meeting at least every other month.

During a series of two-day meetings in November 2008 possibilities for cooperation with the University of Strathclyde were investigated upon.

Hamburg workshop

From September 10th until September 13th, 2008, the PIEp workshop in Hamburg focussing on teambuilding, creativity, internal communication and the establishment of international relationships was successfully held. We were very satisfied with the outcome although we still see possibilities to improve.

Internal CIG meeting in August

A meeting in Luleĺ from August 3rd until August 5th was held in order to have the possibility to go through the programme for the Hamburg workshop in detail. Although the general structure had been mostly clear some important left-outs could be identified and resolved during the physical meeting.
